Dr. Jerzy Macura and Dr.
Danny Sherwinter collaborate to bring the advances of minimally
invasive surgery to the practice of Bariatric Surgery. Their
skill and commitment to Bariatric Surgery have helped thousands
of patients reduce weight and reclaim a healthy and active
life.
The Lap-Band System and revision surgery are used to treat patients suffering
with morbid obesity. Morbid obesity is defined as a body mass
index of 40. Patients who are 120 pounds above their ideal
weight, or patients 80-100 pounds above their ideal weight,
who are treated for diabetes, hypertension hypercholesterolemia
or sleep apnea may be candidates for surgery. Bariatric surgery
is performed only when patients have exhausted all non-surgical
weight loss options and have a medical need for significant
weight reduction.
Our Program team is committed to and experienced
in the care and education of the Bariatric Surgery Patient.
Handbooks, support group meetings, and coordinated care with
specialists in the fields of nutrition, psychology, gastroenterology,
pulmonology and cardiology as well as individual attention
from the Nurse Practitioner, Program Coordinator and your
"personal assistant", all help to facilitate a positive,
supportive and healthy experience both before and after surgery.
Please discuss your interest in surgery with
your primary care doctor. It is mandatory that all patients
have a primary care physician who will work with them after
surgery. The support of your primary care physician may
be also be necessary when working with your insurance carrier.
Insurance will frequently cover the cost of
a medically necessary bariatric surgery. Please contact your
insurance carrier to find if we participate in your plan,
if you have "out of network" coverage and if you
have benefits covering the treatment of "morbid obesity".
