Danny Sherwinter, MD, FACS
Dr. Sherwinter, director of the division of bariatric surgery, obtained his medical training at SUNY Downstate completed a surgical residency at Brookdale Medical Center followed by a fellowship in laparoscopy surgery at North Shore University Hospital. Besides his clinical duties in bariatric surgery, he directs the surgical training program at Maimonides Medical Center and engages in research, having presented numerous papers at national and international meetings.
Harry Adler, MD
Dr. Adler is Associate Director of the department of surgery at Maimonides Medical Center. He is graduate of New York University School of Medicine and completed his surgical residency at New York University Medical Center/Bellevue Hospital. He is certified in general surgery and surgical critical care and has been associated with Maimonides Medical Center for 25 years. He works closely with his associates Dr. Danny Sherwinter and Dr. Rabih Nemr to assure high quality care to bariatric patients.
Rabih Nemr, MD
The newest member of our bariatric team, Dr. Nemr, attended medical school in Lebanon before pursuing his surgical training at SUNY Downstate in Brooklyn. This was followed by a fellowship in laparoscopic surgery at Westchester Medical focusing on bariatric surgery. In addition to performing surgery he collaborates with our physician assistant and bariatric coordinator in running our educational seminar and support groups.
Laura Campisi, Bariatric Coordinator
Laura’s background is in psychology and she holds a master’s degree in industrial psychology from Brooklyn College. She has worked in the medical field for several years prior to assuming her duties as a bariatric coordinator at Maimonides Medical Center. She is responsible for all aspects of the program and was instrumental in obtaining our certification as a center of excellence in bariatric surgery.
Laura is accessible to patients and their families and facilitates the smooth journey to safe and successful weight loss.
Elana Gluzman, Physician Assistant
Elana graduated from Hofstra University as a physician assistant with honors in 2007 and is currently pursuing her master’s degree. She completed her surgical rotation here at Maimonides Medical Center and has been with our program since 2008. Elana serves as a resource for patients and other clinical staff.
She leads patient education seminars, gives ongoing support during the perioperative period and is always available to answer questions.
